The World Boxing Association (WBA) has officially ordered a mandatory lightweight title defense between reigning champion Gervonta "Tank" Davis and the top-ranked contender, Floyd "Kid Austin" Schofield.
The mandate comes because Davis's title defense is considered significantly overdue, with his last appearance being a majority draw against Lamont Roach in March 2025. Under WBA regulations, champions in this weight class must defend their titles every nine months to remain in good standing. If the two sides fail to reach an agreement by the deadline, the WBA may proceed to a purse bid to determine the fight's promotional rights.
If Gervonta Davis wants to keep his WBA lightweight title, he’ll need to fight Floyd Schofield.
